A sterling silver business card case in the form an envelope. The inside still has the original lemon coloured gilded interior. This is a very unusual version as it has the appearance of two separate cases stacked, but, is in fact one case, with two compartments. The form is a classic, and popular, one at the time for calling, and business cards, taking the form of an envelope. The case has a sprung piano hinge along the back, which is still tight, and is deep enough to hold approximately 15-20 cards at a time. The piece was made in Birmingham, England, and has a full set of English silver assay marks inside, it was made in 1906. The makers of this piece are identified by the makers mark along side the hallmark. This mark is for Elkington & Co, and it is also the first year that this 'new' mark was introduced by them. Elkington were one of the finest silversmiths in the UK, and made for almost every luxury retailer in the country, during this time. This would have also included the Kings and Queens, ruling parties and dignitaries across the globe.
